Welcome to Year 1
Mr Routledge is the teacher for this class and he works alongside Mrs Whittaker all week.
Mrs Govier teaches the class every Tuesday. Mr Johnson teaches PE to Year 1 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
There is always a buzz around Year 1 as they learn and grow!
Continuous Provision in Year 1
Our continuous provision continues from EYFS into Year 1, providing children with opportunities to learn through play as they move into key stage one. Long term plans developed for each area of provision identify common play behaviours and progress on from those developed within EYFS, using the Year 1 Lancashire KLIPs as a supporting document to ensure that opportunities for children to further their learning are identified. There are also links to the Year 1 knowledge curriculum within long term plans. Permanent resources and equipment are considered carefully, to ensure that there is progression from EYFS and children have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills, particularly building on the foundational knowledge identified by us as a school, that provide children with a firm foundation for their journey within key stage one. The class teacher plans weekly challenges in each area of provision, focusing on practicing a skill or reinforcing learning from the previous week. Children are also asked to evidence their learning more within Year 1 and have their own individual challenge books, which are celebrated by the class teacher regularly. These are not marked but are verbally discussed within provision and provide evidence in learning that can be used by the class teacher if/when appropriate. As the year progresses, the needs of the cohort are carefully considered and the use of continuous provision is adapted, ensuring that children are fully prepared for the move to a more formal learning style by the end of the year, in preparation for Year 2, whilst also ensuring that the needs of the children are being met.
Outdoor Provision in Year 1
A new addition to our Year 1 learning environment this year is our outdoor provision area. This area has been developed with careful consideration, ensuring that it builds on the skills and learning that is developed throughout EYFS and provides a further level of challenge and opportunity than what children have experienced in earlier year groups. There are links to Year 1 knowledge and skills that children can explore in this outdoor space, as well as areas that children can use to calm and relax alongside their peers.
